Triads in First Inversion
Dr. B Music Theory
Triads in first inversion (why?)
- Bass line can have melody contout and variety of notes.
- Lessen the weight of V and I in a non-cadential way (unperfect cadency).
Diminished triad in first inversion
vii° chord is composed by m3 and d5, use vii°6. In C key, use B°/D.
The same for ii° chord, use ii°6.
Parallel sixth chords
Moving sixth chords in parallel sound very good.
Part writing rules for 4 voices
- Try to double the soprano with an inner voice (alto or tenor).
- Never double the leading tone.
